Matera and the rock churches
28 March 2020 10:00 - 16:00
Matera and the rock churches, Unesco world heritage
Matera capital of culture 2019. From symbol of Italy’s shame to Unesco heritage and capital of culture 2019.
With this walking excursion we will get to know in depth what Matera really has to offer to the attentive visitor and not to the hit and run tourist.
The walk in the Murgia Materana Park to discover the numerous rock churches kept in this environment of high naturalistic value is enriched by the presence of these ancient churches hidden in the Gravina. Through our walk we will relive the extraordinary millennial history of Matera, one of the oldest cities in the world,
inhabited without interruption since the Neolithic. The itinerary will lead us to walk along a fascinating panoramic path, full of naturalistic glimpses and amazing views of the Sassi, frescoes and rock churches and the inevitable kestrel hawks, symbols of the park. The excursion is of medium commitment as it will cross the ravine.
We will walk both inside the ravine to discover the rock churches and on the terraces of the ravine itself from which we can enjoy a complete view of the Sassi and the Civita. A breathtaking itinerary for all lovers of nature and wild places.
